ICC Responds to Reports of Pakistan’s Name Being Removed from India’s Champions Trophy Jersey
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has firmly denied reports suggesting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opted to remove Pakistan’s name from India’s jersey for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
ICC sources clarified that it is a mandatory requirement for all participating teams to display the tournament’s official logo on their kits, which includes the host nation’s name.
“It is the responsibility of every team to include the tournament logo on their jerseys. All teams are required to comply with this rule,” an ICC source explained.
This clarification came after Indian media reports claimed that the BCCI had decided to omit Pakistan’s name from India’s Champions Trophy jersey. The ICC further emphasized that any team failing to display the official logo would face strict action. Additionally, ICC sources confirmed that no official had spoken to Indian news agencies regarding this issue.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rejected these reports, calling them baseless. A PCB source stated, “We trust the ICC to uphold its standards and ensure the host nation’s name is appropriately represented on all jerseys.”
This statement comes amid ongoing tensions between the PCB and BCCI, with allegations of politicizing cricket. The PCB had previously expressed concerns over India’s refusal to tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, as well as their reported reluctance to attend the tournament’s opening ceremony.
The ICC’s response aims to put these speculations to rest, stressing that the tournament’s branding rules will remain consistent and inclusive, regardless of any diplomatic tensions.
In the past, the Indian government had decided against sending the national cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, which led the ICC to adopt a hybrid model. This compromise allows India to play its matches in Dubai.
