A booming year filled with phenomenal performances has decided the fate of the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024.
Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah has been honoured with the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year at the ICC Awards, recognising his extraordinary 2024, in which he dominated opponents in both the longest and shortest formats of the game.

Bumrah overcame fellow nominees Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook to claim the title, becoming the fifth recipient of the award from India, following in the footsteps of Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018).
Bumrah’s performance in 2024 cemented his status as one of the finest fast bowlers in modern-day cricket. In Test cricket, Bumrah’s dominance continued as he claimed 71 wickets in just 13 matches, the highest by any bowler in 2024 and second only to Kapil Dev for the most by an Indian pacer in a calendar year. One of Bumrah’s standout performances came against Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where his 3-14 spell changed the course of the game and led India to a six-run victory. He was also pivotal in the final, taking 2-18 from four overs, including key wickets like Reeza Hendricks and Marco Jansen.
Bumrah started the year strong, with eight wickets against the Proteas in Cape Town, including a six-wicket haul that set up a big win and a series draw for India. He went on to claim 19 wickets in India’s 4-1 series victory over England, which bolstered India’s position in the WTC Final.
