Gudakesh Motie and Jomel Warrican Star as West Indies Bundle Pakistan for 154
In a thrilling opening day of the second Test in Multan, West Indies spinners Gudakesh Motie and Jomel Warrican spun a web to dismiss Pakistan for just 154 runs. Warrican’s superb performance saw him return with figures of 4-43, while Motie and Kemar Roach claimed three and two wickets, respectively, giving the West Indies a slender nine-run lead.
Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with a gritty 49, while Saud Shakeel contributed 32. Rizwan and Shakeel formed a key partnership of 68 runs in the third session, taking Pakistan’s total to 119 before Shakeel was dismissed following a brilliant catch by Roach. Rizwan was then stumped off Warrican’s bowling, leaving Pakistan in a precarious position. Except for Rizwan and Sajid Khan (16*), no Pakistani batter could offer much resistance as they were bowled out for 154.
Pakistan’s Struggles on Day 1
Pakistan started the day poorly, struggling at 70-4 when the umpires called for Tea, with Saud Shakeel (14*) and Mohammad Rizwan (13*) at the crease. West Indies spinners quickly took control, dismantling Pakistan’s top order with swift wickets. Mohammad Hurraira was dismissed for 9 runs by Roach, and Babar Azam fell for just 1 after being bowled by Motie. Roach then bowled Pakistan captain Shan Masood for 15, leaving the hosts reeling at 25-3.
Kamran Ghulam fought back with a solid 16 before he was dismissed cheaply, caught off Motie’s bowling. Rizwan and Shakeel, however, played cautiously, ensuring no further damage during the second session.
Pakistan Dominates West Indies in First Innings
Earlier, Pakistan had been in control after bundling West Indies out for 163 runs in the first session, thanks to a stunning six-wicket haul from Noman Ali. Pakistan’s pacer Kashif Ali made the first breakthrough by dismissing Mikyle Louis (4), followed by Sajid Khan removing debutant Amir Jangoo.
While Kavem Hodge held the innings together, Pakistan’s spinners wreaked havoc. Noman Ali took a hat-trick, reducing West Indies to 38-7. Hodge contributed 21 runs before falling to Abrar Ahmed, leaving West Indies at 54-8. However, West Indies’ tailenders fought back, with Motie and Roach adding crucial runs.
Motie, along with Jomel Warrican, pushed the total to 163, adding 68 runs for the last wicket. Motie’s 55 runs from 87 balls and Warrican’s unbeaten 36 off 40 were pivotal, much to the frustration of Pakistan. Noman Ali finally ended the partnership by dismissing Motie, bringing West Indies’ innings to a close.
For Pakistan, Noman Ali finished with remarkable figures of 6-59, while Sajid Khan claimed two wickets. Abrar Ahmed and Kashif Ali picked up one wicket each.
