Imam-ul-Haq Breaks Silence on Being Snubbed for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Imam-ul-Haq’s Response to Champions Trophy 2025 Exclusion
Pakistan’s top-order batter, Imam-ul-Haq, has reacted to his omission from the national squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to begin on February 19.
Imam’s name was widely discussed in the media as a potential replacement for young opener Saim Ayub, who sustained an ankle injury during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa. However, the selectors chose to include Fakhar Zaman as the sole specialist opener in the Champions Trophy squad. Fakhar will be partnered with either Babar Azam or Saud Shakeel, both middle-order batters, at the top of the batting order.
After the squad was announced, Imam-ul-Haq took to his official Instagram account to express his disappointment but remained hopeful. He wrote, “Not the outcome I expected, but the journey isn’t over. This is how life is—it’s all about growth and getting stronger with every hurdle. Patience and trust in Allah is the key!”
Imam’s last ODI appearance was during the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, where he played against South Africa. Over 72 ODIs, he has scored 3,138 runs at an impressive average of 48.27, with nine centuries and 20 half-centuries to his name. His most recent international match was in December 2023 during the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
